Today, we begin a three-part podcast as we approach the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn, where the Maryland 400 earned their name. This podcast comes from a collaboration with journalism professor Tom Moore of CUNY York College. We are so excited to feature these pieces, and are grateful to Tom for producing them.

The first episode features Finding the Maryland 400 project director Owen Lourie, senior research archivist at the Maryland State Archives. It explores who the Maryland 400 were and how we have learned about them. One of the records that is described is also discussed in this post: The Mystery of the Maryland 400, Part II.

This episode also covers the women who traveled with the army and provided critical support to the soldiers that the army didn’t do.

We are also excited to announce that on August 22, Finding the Maryland 400, the book documenting the lives of the famed Maryland soldiers, will officially go on sale. It will be available online from the Maryland State Archives and Amazon, and in person at the State Archives in Annapolis. In addition, it will be sold at the events in Brooklyn commemorating the 250th anniversary of the battle on August 22. Look for more information about purchasing the book soon!
